As the researchers note, observations of Jupiter and other giant planets are extremely difficult to carry out, as a clear image interferes with the Earth’s atmosphere and dust particles contained in it. Fletcher and his colleagues managed not only to get clear of Jupiter pictures, but also to trace the movement of gas of clubs in its atmosphere, using a simple but very effective technique to improve image quality, which “invented” the owners of smartphones with poor cameras.
As the scientists explain, they received a few dozen pictures of different parts of Jupiter using the VLT, operating in burst mode, and chose from them only the best clear photos, and then combined them into a single image.
