A team of scientists from the National Research Technological University MISA presented a prototype nuclear batteries, declared term trouble-free operation of which is 50 years. This was reported by the press service of MISA.
As the Mother of the electron source in the prototype used an isotope of nickel-63. As planned, these batteries can be used in a very wide range – from the spacecraft to kardioimplantov. The half-life “, 63 nickel” is 100 years old, and the scientists say it emits a “soft” radiation, which does not cause harm to living organisms.
Scientists from MISA, headed by Yuri Parkhomenko created a technology that allows to convert beta-radiation energy into electrical energy using piezoelectric single crystals, this technology can be used to create a beta voltaicheskih AC voltage batteries. According Parkhomenko, in the pulse mode, one beta voltaichesky element is capable of producing power up to 1 mW / cm, enough to provide power kardioimplantata.
