According to NASA, the maximum ice cover in the Arctic this year amounted to about 14,540,000 miles. This is the minimum area in the history of satellite observations. Previously, the smallest area was recorded in 2011 – 14,650,000 km.

According to the experts, area lost this year Arctic sea ice is comparable to the area of Texas and California combined.
The area of ice cover in the Arctic depends on the time of year – the most commonly occurs at the end of February – beginning of April, at least – in September.
