The solar eclipse of March 20: View from the ISS – GISMETEO.Novosti

The astronauts to the International Space Station is not only witnessed the delightful solar eclipse, but also made some great photos of astronomical phenomena.

European Space Agency astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti broke away from the experiments to capture on camera the total solar eclipse. Apparently, she even managed to get a great photo of Moon’s shadow on the Earth’s surface, also called umber.

To see the total solar eclipse on March 20 it was possible only in certain parts of the world. The best position to view the astronomical phenomenon were the Faroe Islands and the archipelago of Svalbard, as well as other areas of the North Atlantic. Most fearless amateur astronomers even ordered charter flights to be able to see the total eclipse from the air.
